In the high-intensity world of EMS, trauma often arrives unseen—woven into patient histories, behaviors, and even our own responses as providers. This session introduces the concept of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) as a critical shift in how EMS clinicians are trained to deliver care: not just treating a patient, but recognizing the whole person behind the injury, the behavior, or the diagnosis.
Participants will explore the foundational principles of TIC, examine its relevance in both patient interactions and provider well-being, and discuss how traditional EMS approaches can unintentionally retraumatize or overlook essential human needs. This presentation will highlight how trauma-informed practices can be embedded into EMS education to foster trust, resilience, and cultural humility.
